I was trying to update the firmware on my DP-24. I downloaded the file...unzipped it.....and placed it in the Utilities folder..........restarted......and the unit didn't find the file. I've updated the firmware before so I was clueless as to why it wouldn't "see" the new file there. The same thing was happening when I was trying to update the firmware on my Zoom R16. The unit never saw it. I'm using Windows 7. So.....tried the same thing with an older XP laptop and was able to update both units with no problem.

So.....I have to think that my Windows 7 PC is creating a file that neither unit can see.......for some reason....but I really have no idea. What am I doing wrong here?

hi, i just got my unit so do I have to update it and if so how is it done becouse i'm new to this and I don't have a clue to what i'm doing

not to sound like a dummy but how do i know what version to download? i checked the system info and my date on the unit was older then what is shown on the tascam download info page?????? I'm lost

my unit system version says 1.02 so does that mean my unit is ok? on the website it says 1.01 so ..............what?

Download the latest version (highest number) which is 1.12. This will include any and all fixes and functional improvements. If your firmware is the original you don't need to do the upgrades in between the oldest and newest, just the latest.

If you haven't yet done so, it might be a good idea to try hooking your computer up to the DP-24 and accessing the "drive" so you have an idea what you're doing and looking for before you begin with the upgrade. If you run into any snags at that point you can ask some questions here for some help if needed.

you're the best!! thanks alot. I will try it and let you know how i make out!! happy new year

"If you like your DP-24 with version 1.12 firmware, you can keep it. Period". :D
You'll never lose your data, nor will it cost you anymore than the previous firmware. You won't have substandard functionality, nor a unit that will give you dropouts if you have a pre-existing vocal condition.

Rolf, I think you would be better off going the computer route with recording software that never needs upgrades or bug fixes. Oh wait...., my own computers ASUS motherboard BIOS has had upgrades as well as my MAudio 2496 soundcard. And even my DAW software has had upgrades  When does all this upgrade madness end

just want an upgrade with the stability of the Neo ... a stand alone recorder no CPU here... looking at the alesis HD 24 too..

Are you using Windows to extract the file or another utility such as WinZip, 7-Zip , or other? 32 or 64 bit system? Weird

arcaxis.......I'm using the unzip utility that comes with Windows 7. You know....just a right click and "extract". I've tried to compare the files using XP to see if there's any difference and I can't find anything in "properties" that is different per say. It has to be a Win7 setting in my laptop because, as I mentioned, my ZOOM R16 does not recognize an updated firmware file from my Win7 unit either. I'm baffled. By the way.....it's a 64 bit system.
