Did a quickie first recording last week...1st track was instrumental straight from keyboard. 2nd track was a vocal from a Shure SM-58. Even with the Phantom power on and every knob and dial turned to almost 11, (lol) I had a hard time getting the vocal the show up on the meter and had to bring down the instrumental part so the vocal could come through....

My question is...if I bought a mic with Phantom power, do you think that would help any future vocals I might want to put down or should I chance running through my keyboard amp and out back into the DP-02 ?

And...if you recommend a Phantom powered mic...what's one that won't bust the bank?

Thanks for the feedback

Joe

I have a dp01 fxcd and use a variety of mics with it.....since the 01 and the 02 probably have the same preamps, I can tell you that you will do much better by buying an external preamp.....I use a couple of Behringer mic-200's....this gives a good strong signal without the need to turn those Tascam input volumes up into their "noisy" range.....turning on the phantom power will have no effect on your sm-58, but will come in handy with condenser mics......condenser mics often have higher output than dynamics, but a preamp will still be a very good idea.
