According to the Manual, the DP-01 is compatable with WIN 2000, which is what I have, however when I plug the USB Cable in the computer acknowledges that there is a new device plugged in, I just get an error message that there are no drivers installed for this device. Any ideas on what could be the problem. I have spoke with Dell and they seem to think that it's the TASCAM. I have another computer with WIN 2000 on it and it did the same thing? Does anybody have any ideas on what is going on here? Thanks in advance for your time.

USB 1 or 2?

PC's and errors....just guessing are you using USB 2? I hear it works much better.
Can you download 8 tracks in multi-track form to the pc using USB?

USB 1 or 2

My computer has 1.1 however the 2.0 version is backwards compatible. After speaking with Tascam on Monday, you have to open the USB port on the DP before the computer acknowledges the drive. The way the manual reads, as soon as you connect the USB cable the computer should see the device as a removable drive. In my case not so, also for some reason Windows also does not see it as a removable drive, it sees the DP as a "mass storage device".
Yes according to the manual you can load tracks on to the computer for mixing/mastering purposes, however I have not done this yet as I have no software for working with individual tracks.

i think there are free trials someone here turned me on to some.
quick little download.

daang this unit sounds hot...in a good way. user friendly and can download multi-tracks in raw form....

Hey Coolcat,
This is a very awesome unit I am very pleased with mine. Now that I have my gain structure straightened out, the acoustic effects are even more "live". I do not think I could have spent my money better. If your budget is $500 or so this is your unit! Now that is coming from a long time Teac/Tascam fan so my opinion is biased...but not my ears! :D Another thing of note, when your tracking you cannot use the internal reverb. Once you have the tracks down and you go into mixdown/mastering the internal reverb is applied by the effects send and return buss. You can track with the effects, just no reverb. As far as tracking dry and adding effects (built in fx), I am not sure as I have been working my a$$ off and really not had time to "push" her.
As far as free downloads there is nothing at the Tascam website that I know of, and as the unit is a stand alone device, not a DAW, it would be kind of awkward. When you hit the menue button on the DP, it is very straight forward. One or two pages to get where you want to go, tell it what you want to do or where you want to go, and then it's back to the knobs...and cat...I like knobs! :D To heck with all that digging through menues on a little LCD screen, lets get back to something I understand...knobs and sliders! As I said in another post, this unit feels like it's namesake, the original Porta. It just does not get any better than this!

I kinda like that the reverb only goes on after. Sometimes you end up wishing you did not record it on original track. The acoustic guitar effects are pretty darn good. I like them with my variaxe so far. Still gotta play with it with keys and electronic drums and wind controller. Nice to have something new and simple that doesn't intiminate me and sounds as good as I hoped.

Dp01

me too...old porta studio 144 dude. only thing that was ever as enjoyable
user Friendly has been the Yammie MD8 or ADAT (outboard gear $$ which i didn't have). subliminally everything has been compared to the porta studio.
The reel to reel guys can understand.

the young ones who only know Pro Tools/Cakewalk type don't have this
issue most likely and will enjoy 65 tracks with editing and ..oh well.

DP01 sounds a fit for me too.

I really wanted to get into pc recording, all those tracks.
But it just didn't feel right. (and like the ADAT $$$ in additional gear).

I paid $1200 for the old porta-studio in like 79-80. my friends would have
spent it on smokes..hehehe
thought i was nuts...$1200 for a cassette deck?
Thing is still working.

DP01 sounds as if they accomplished the Porta A/D.

Price is very good too? I can sell my MD8, 3630, hhhmmmm...
So you both have the EFX version?

Damnnnn....where's my fhkng credit card i swore i wouldn't use!! :)

thanks for updates

He has done better, I couldn't fhkng handle it.

fhk that sht. oooops....disc full error again....zip 100.

plug in, press play/rec....thats what i'm talkin bout too...
get to the music and guitars! overdubbs. Les Paul man.

DP01-efx-fiber optic to the CD-R.....sweeeeet.
I would like to be able to download the multi-raw tracks
and then upload back onto the DP01 if needed? but for what i do
its not a huge deal.

quite working so much and update this forum........

Downloading Raw Tracks/Reverb

CC, you can inport raw tracks on to the DP, however they must be a .wav extension. A buddy of mine in New Orleans, is planning on getting one and we plan on swapping song ideas in raw track form so we can add to each others ideas.
Kramster I am with you on adding the reverb in mix down, as what is cut, is cut! I just thought I might point that out for the people that do things differently. Please forgive me as I have been a way from the scene for a long time, but just what is a variaxe?
Well folks, it's time to get ready for work. I hoping to spend this weekend playing with my new toy. If I run into to anything unsual or very cool I will post it in this forum. As I stop by here at least once a day to see whats going on!

Until Then,
Straight Ahead...

"""QUOTE""HR"The driver is switched from within the recording
software that you are using (and crashing your
computer currently). I have used cubase le and
cubasis vst and there is a "settings" menu for
those. What are you using? If neither of the cubase
products I mentioned above, try searching your
undoubtedly pdf-ified user manual for your
recording software for "asio driver".

Hopefully this helps.

daaang.....
does the above sound like a fun studio session???

YIKES!!!!

Variaxe is a modeling guitar by Line 6. I have the acoustic, and have mounted a Roland guitar synth set up to it.

any help..?

i just want to know which wire go to what to connect my Tascam Track knoobs but control by protools.

:spank:

The Dp01 is not a control surface or interface it is a standalone DAW. You can transfer tracks recorded on the DP01 into ProTools either via the USB as .wav files or digital out depending on what you have available. The only control surface/interfaces that will work with PT will either be DigiDesign or M-Audio.
With the new 003 out some of the older 002 control surfaces are getting more affordable.
