I have a Tascam DP-01, the basic no frills model. The problem is I'm looking into getting a good condenser mic and a mixer that has phantom power but I'm not sure how to hook them up to it for recording. It says in the manual I can use the "Stereo Mix (L,R)" inputs but that the signals will only go to the "Line Output" jacks and that "They cannot be recorded on the DP-01." What the hell is that? Is there another way? Or can I hook it up to one of the TRS inputs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

If the mixer you're planning to use have it's main outs as TRS 1/4 , you can connect both (L & R) to your 1/4 TRS inputs.
I have one DP01 too, and I use 3 mixers to get my drums mic'ed. 2 x 4 channel mini mixers go to a tascam 414 (that now I use as a mixer), and then from the 414 to my DP01; using TRS 1/4 cables.
Take a look at this link; check the pic.

Use the front inputs, set them to 'line' to accept the line-level signal from the mixer. The stereo mix inputs are used to feed a signal to the master mix, such as a drum machine MIDI sync'd up to the DP-01.

So, would I have to hook it up to each input seperately (Left in one TRS and Right in the other?). Or can I get some kind of Y-cable to hook both L and R outputs from the mixer into one TRS input?

I have zero mixer experience so I have no clue. :)

You can
1) hook up L from mixer to TRS input 1 and R from mixer to TRS input 2 (and record in 2 tracks)
2) hook up using a Y cable (not recommended) L & R from mixer to TRS input 1
3) hook up panning hard L (or R) your mixer and sending either from L or R using a mono 1/4 TRS cable to your TRS input 1
I've used hookups 1 and 3, with good results.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
