I have been recording on a DP-008 for a few months now and am enjoying it very much. I am, however, having trouble with distortion and volume control. It seems as if I put the volume loud enough to hear comfortably while recording, it comes out "muddy" or distorted.

I'm a real novice when it comes to recording...is there a "standard" way to set the volume to insure a more clear vocal recording?

Thanks for any tips..

Make sure you set your trim levels so that the "OT" lights do not come on, and make sure you are not peaking out the meters on the screen. If you are, there should be some bars that stay at the top of the range for a few seconds on the channels and master channels on the screen. I'm basing this off my experience with the DP-004, but I think they operate very similarly.

Thanks. Do you mean don't let the red light flash on the channel I'm recording on? (when I sing louder, etc..). Sometimes this works ok, but sometimes, to keep the level low enough to keep the light from flashing, I can't hear through the headphones. I have the volume dial (on the back) up to 10. Could there be something wrong with the unit (or my phones)?
