In a lot of punk songs there are quick slides right before a chorus or something. It's distorted and sounds a little bit like harmonics...but decending in pitch really quickly.

A very obvious example is in "Up and Go" by the Starting Line...at around 0:10.

In Fat Lip by SUm 41 there is one at 1:20. (Harder to hear)

They are in tons of pop-punk songs and I am wondering how it is done.

Thanks For Your help...

There are two things that I'll do...
A. Flatten all my fingers over the bottom 3 strings, "fret" (I guess place is a better term ;)) around the 12 fret, give it a good pick then slide down. You get more noise in standard and drop D is mor musical (since it's a 5 chord, not a 5/7).

B. A good, firm pickscrape can set off a ton of harmonics. get that pick at least perpendicular to the strings, sometimes even pointing into the scrape. If you are doing them right, you should be wearing out picks every ten scrapes. ;)

jailbreak :D

take your pick and rub it against the strings, moving the pick up or down, sounds good with some distortion, i even do it on my bass with some heavy destortion.
