Okay, I thought I would try to record some stuff I've been recording on my Tascam 424 mkii to the computer so that I could burn a CD. So I downloaded Sonic Forge (demo) then opened it. A gray screen with some sort of vertical meters (?) on the right side and toolbars across the top. Maybe I need to read some sort of tutorial, but being the typical male I want to just dive in. How do I dive in? I know that the Tascam has to be plugged into the input of my soundcard, but after that what??? Any help would surely be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

forge is just a stereo editor. albeit a very good one.
it would just take too many pages to get into all its operating features
i'm afraid. you should really go into all the help files.
makesure tascam is connected to sound card line input.
make sure in forges settings your set to44.1 16 bit for starters. then
press record in forge a split second before starting playback of your 4 track.
press stop to stop forge recording. peace.
ps - read up on forges noise reduction. youll find it usefull.

ya, try a demo of mulitrack recording software like sonar 4 www.cakewalk.com or tracktion www.mackie.com . they are more geared towards the recording and mixing end of things rather than mastering and editing stereo tracks and whatnot.

You want to "dive in"??

Go to the local Barnes&Noble, grab a copy of Scott Garigus' "SoundForge POWER" off the shelf and grab a cup of java at the cafe; spend some time reading.

While you're there, grab a couple of other starter recording books off the shelf and flip through them, too.... "Home Recording For Musicians for Dummies" is a good starter book.

"This IS rocket science!"
