I really like the accurate splicing and crossfade possibilites in nuendo.Besides that i use only a little reverb and occasionally some compression,
no more than 8 tracks. I was thinking of getting a reel to reel recorder for tracking, then dump the tracks onto computer to make mix sketches,
and do analog mixes later. Any cheaper programs that fit the task?

Have a nice evening.

Cubase is Nuendo's little brother and the interface is very similar, so you'll have very little cross-training to do.

CubaseSE is a great program (limit of 48 audio/unlimited MIDI tracks) and only $100-150...

exactly. it's like commin down from flying a Boeing Triple 7 and taking the seat of a 757. (Which I imagine must sting the ego a bit, but that's another story) :D.

Yup...Nuendo is the beast for audio and video applications. Whereas Cubase is fantastic for audio and midi processing.

not sure why you would want to change.... prog is too good for the intended use.... too many features....(you can turn off what you dont use alot)

Nuendo has all the audio/midi tools Cubase has plus all the post tools. For traking and music only, cubase is excellent!
