Hey gang

Would appreciate it if you could take a listen to one of the songs my band and I have recorded for our new CD. All done at home - nothing professional. Ive picked up a lot of tips and tricks on mixing and mastering from those in the know on here - so have a listen if you can spare a few minutes

and offer any comments on the you might have on the mix etc

much appreciated.

Like the tune. For me, the drums are leaning towards the left. I don't know if that's what you looking for, but its distracting as hell for me. Everything is with too much reverb for my taste. The sounds are good though.

Hey thanks for the pointers - will dry it up a little. Not sure what I did for the drums - but certainly didnt intend to pan them off to the left. I will take a look at that and correct.

Yeah, I'm hearing the same thing...liking the drums, but they seem to left-leaning.

Love the guitars on the "someone take this woman from me please part"! Thought there was a little too much verb or echo to the lead vox at first, but it grew on me. Pretty tight throughout..very nice job :)!

On a compositional level - it's great. The song has a cool hook (some one take this woman from me please) that's sticking in my head - In a good way. The interplay between the lead and rhythm guitars sounds pretty well defined and the intonation sounds good. The drums are definitely to the left. That may be because I'm mainly hearing Hi-Hat, Snare and one Crash - which would be on the left side naturally. I'm a real amateur at this stuff so take what I say with a grain of salt. On top of that I'm listening to the song on computer speakers. Just my .02 Good stuff.

BTW - I'm new here and haven't had the opportunity to listen to all of the songs offered up by members of this forum. I have, however, listened to quite a few and yours is the best yet!!

There's a lot that is right with this song, and I'm not talking about panning. I really like the lead guitar's expression. It is so damned personal, it's like it's talking, not just playing notes. I like the vocals, the whole shebang!

It's dated, for sure, somewhere in the late 70s to early 80s. The era of some of my favorites.

I am a fan of this music. I would like to hear more.:D

Thanks everyone for taking the time to listen to the tune and comment. It was written (and sung) by James Montgomery - Bass player and vocalist in our band.

I think the drum panning thing came from the fact that I only used one overhead mic and I panned it off-centre slightly in the mix - to give them a bit of depth (only having a 2-track USB audio interface - Overhead in one channel and the rest of the kit through the other). In future I will be using 2 overheads (maybe the recorder-man technique that Ive been hearing so much about??).

Anyway - will post more songs from home tonight. We have quite a range of styles on our CD (2 writers with their own unique set of influences) - so I'd be interested to hear what you all think
