would doubling up my final mix help making it sound more upfront? i dont know what exactly it needs, but it just isnt very 'upfront'

any advice would be greatly apreciated.

thanks,
pete

What exactly isn't "up front" enough?

Doubling things can help in some situations, but it can also cramp up the mix it seems.

???? If you're simply doubling something already there then all you're doing is turning it up. If it doesn't sound right then you didn't mix it right.

Jonnyc is right. Are you thinking about using delays? If so, this is best handled at the track level rather than applying to the entire mix.

"Upfront" is a vague and ambiguous term in this context. Maybe all that it needs is a little overall EQ? If so, try raising the upper mids a bit.

And if you mean recording guitars twice, that can make it sound THICKER, but unless you play it very tight and know what you're doing in the mix it will just make it muddier.

Main way to make a mix more up front is via EQing, compression, exciting, etc.. drums should thump and click, bass should bounce, guitars should crunch... etc etc ad nauseum.

Are you talking about multi-band compression?

bringing in 3 or 4 copies of your final, applying EQ and compression on each?

What??????

hey man,
good song and good recording... i'm not an expert, but i'll give you my thoughts.

the main vocals sounded a little too high in the mix. i'd bring it down a little bit (3 db?) and add some multiband compression on the entire mix... don't go overboard. boost the mids a teeny bit to give it a little more thickness and see how that sounds.

again, nice work.
