Hello! I'm not normally a deceitful person but desperate measures are called for!

Couldn't get any replies to my earlier question so I thought I'd try to fool you all into reading my question. Sorry! Over 1000 peple read tubetude and Pedullists conversation just because it was marked private! What an inquisitive bunch we are! PLEASE dont click your Back arrow, just have a read... Any and all suggestions are extremely welcome (including shut up mari and figure it out yourself!)

Heres the problem...

I'm using Digital Performer on a G4. Audio interface is a MOTU 2408. The computer crashes/freezes every time I try to exit the programme. It does however allow me to save.

The demo session that came with the software runs fine. I can close it and exit the programme without any problems. Its only when I open up sessions that I have recorded myself. I'm a musician trying to get used to the technology, finding it tough at times to be honest. I'm sure I must have changed some of the setting or something to cause this problem. Dont know what though... Any ideas??? Anyone??

Cheers,

Mari

Is it a cracked version, or legal? If it's a crack, then crashing wouldn't be unusual.... and the answer, of course, is to buy the actual software...

If it ISN'T a cracked version, then you really should talk to DP's tech support team - they will assist you with specific configurations for your machine.

Unfortunately, there aren't many mac users on the board, and there are even fewer MOTU users. Not that Macs or MOTU systems are bad...that's just the way it is at the moment. Hope somebody pops in with an answer for you.

Just wanted to point out that you should consider motu's tech support as I am using nuendo (not 2.0) the real deal, no cracked stuff on a pc and I get the same problem.

I'm in the middle of lots of upgrades right now, (new studio machine, purchasing nuendo 2.0)

but hearing that you're having this problem on such a different rig leads me to believe that maybe motu has something to do with it... I'll shoot an email to them, if you beat me to it, let me know what you find out...

Regards,
Rich

ps - other than this, I love my 2408, perfect sounding recordings, hampered only by me!

Yeah, my DP is the legal version. Had a cracked version of Cubase before and said never again.

In my madness I accidentally deleted the Preferences folder and basically screwed everything up. Ive been at it for the last few hours setting everything up again. The problem seems to be fixed, I cant believe it! Of course theres nothing stopping it from happening again but I'm gonna write down every change I make from now on. Hopefully that'll narrow things down a bit in the event of a re-occurance.

Only problem now is that everything on the screen is HUGE! I've tried changing the setting in the Appearance menu etc but to no avail. Time to ring Apple Support I think. I had to laugh when DP finally opened and the mixer window was sprawled accross the entire screen! You could stand at the other side of the room and still read off the pan settings! Couldn't even see the close icon, somewhere off screen. Its not the monitor either coz I tried connecting up my PC monitor, no change. Have to keep telling myself its all a learning process.

The MOTU is really a great interface. I love it to bits. Did some great quality recordings since I got the system a month ago. Ive a couple of nice mics too (2 B&Ks and an AT4033) and a Mackie Vlz pro desk which help a lot.

Any of you have any idea how to fix the screen problems?

Cheers

Mari

Just be sure to remove the prefrences file from your system folder before you reinstall, also any extensions it may have left behind. that way you can be sure to start fresh, but be warned... never "play around" with the extensions folder if your unsure then its best to leave it alone. good luck

Yeah, Ive definately learned my lesson. No more fooling around in System Folders. At least until I know for sure what I'm doing.

Its working okay now so i wont need to reinstall DP but its something I can try in the future if it all goes pear shaped again. Thanks guys.

Simple Solution

Hey, thought some of you might like to know.

Remember I was saying about the problem that everything on my computer screen was huge and chnging the setting in the control panel did nothing to help?

I was thinking that it was all sorts of things! Thought there was something wrong with the computer, was freaking out.

Well, figured out eventually what the trouble was. Two words SCREEN RESOLUTION!! When I deleted the Preferences Folder, the default setting of 640 X 480, 60Hz was restored. I had to change it to 800 X 600, 120 Hz. I cant believe it was so simple. I was coming up with all these complex problems in my head. Just goes to show that the problem is not always as big as you think, or as complex. You have to take things back to basics sometimes.

And the moral is once again...Stop screwing around in System Folders? Well, maybe not, I've learned loads!
