I am currently planning (er...read "dreaming") about my studio to come and I am wondering what kind of hardware you are all using.

I was thinking of getting a digital Fostex 16 track, but all my recording background is with a DAW.

How do most of you track? I like the idea of tracking with a Digital recorder, but how easy are these to mix with?

I would need a rack them with extrernal compressors, eq's, etc. which would cost more than software.

How can I efficiently combine both (assuming I have the money for it)

Which way do you recommend I go?

(lots of questions I know....)

You can get many answers to this, but a lot of folks like the hands on of hardware. If you dont already have outboard effects you might consider using the hardware recorder and then importing to PC for mixing and effects and then to write to CD from the PC.

While I'd love to have a digital mixer or control surface (can't afford one), I've gotten used to mouse-mixing, and it's really not that bad. I have all the same flexibility, just without the fingers on the sliders.
