It has insert jacks on each channel that can used as direct outs.

I haven't used an EV baord since the late 70's.I am not sure how good they are now days.

if i'm not mistaken, EV boards are design for live use.

They make nice PA speakers.

but that don't mean you can't use them to record right? I mean what's the difference?

yea you can still use it for recording.

:DSAE ; A live can be used for recording, but not real handy. One would want to have some kind of inline monitoring so YOU can hear whats going on to tape.
If you use a 8-track, you would need to have 8 ins for the returns from the recorder, also aset of outs from the mixer to recorder. This is where direct ins/outs on each channel come in handy.
With a live mixer you may be doing a lot of patching/repatching, OK for a few instruments/vocals, a real pain when doing a large production/serious multitrack project.

oh ya that all makes sense. I have had a hard time trying to find a board that has in/out for each channel.

Would it be possible to simply run the mains to an amp to hear what you are tracking?

So by plugging something into the the "outs" of the board it doesn't play through the mains?

:) When you say MAINS I'm assuming you are using the master faders(left+right), yes you can monitor what your band or self is doing while recording through the mains.

Q; are you planning to multi-track you project?
If so,
Q; how are you going to monitor the tracks on your recorder?

By the way thats a decent little board, if it can be had for a song SING! Most of EV's stuff was and is pricey but very well made!

I would track using the outs of each channel (I sent him an email to find out if there are outs per channel) and send that to a moto 24. I would use n-track

:) If the mixer has direct outs then the mixer would do for what you are thinking. Findout the history about mixer if you can.

I owned one of these, as well as the 16 channel. They are very good boards for live mixing/recording. With the 2 aux busses,mix-out, left/right mains, channel inserts, phono outs it's easy to configure. The only issue I had was the ribbon connectors for each channel module would periodicaly need to be reseated from vibration during travel and handling, and it`s a little heavier than it looks. At that price you could re-sell it for profit.
