Drum issues

Listened to it thu my near-field monitors. These are my advices:

1. Kick
Buried in the mix, dull and lifeless. need more bite and presence in your mix. Try adding more beater microphone and less outside microphone. You can you can emphasize the "bite" of the kick's beater using a little EQ at 4 kHz or 5kHz

2. Snare
I prefer the calssic approach to pan the snare to the center.Yes, you can put it slighty to the right. In this case you;re positioning it at 3 or 4 o'clock and it should be at 1 o'clock.

3. Cymbals
You can use more cymbals to give a nice atmosphere to your tune.

4. Bass
Tight the bass using a compressor. Don't abuse it, use it wisely... 3:1 ratio, fast attack, like -7db threshold. You can turn the gain a little to compensate reduction. Not sure how a comrpessor works?

Repost to see what you got. And please, don't be like other guys that never come back. Stay connected, you'll learn a lot.

snare goes in the center this is annoying in headphones and the snare sounds like your slapping cardboard

the panning of things isn't balanced. snare center and the guitars further right or left this will give more space to the bass in the center. Also try multitracking rhythm guitars (especially power chord progressions) one on either side of the panning spectrum.

Thanks for the info!! Im away from the studio at the moment but Il post a new mix in about a day or two.I knew panning was an issue and the bass sounded a little lumpy so that will get fixed. Everything except for the solos were double tracked (the solos were even ran through a waves doubler) . As far as the snare sounding like cardboard I dont know how to explain that , quite possibly could be your speakers , sounds pretty crisp through my stuff (and by that I mean , yes , more than one set of speakers. I reference on many systems) Thanks for all the help!!

• Frequency ResponsE: 12-39,000 Hz
• Transducer Principle: Dynamic, open
• Nominal impedance: 300 ohm
• Characteristic SPL @ 1 kHz 97 dB
• Load rating: 0.2 W
• THD Less than or equal to 0.1%

First of all, you have a great song there:D I really liked it!

Yeah, some panning issues that can be easily fixed.
Bass drum, as noted before, can be brought up in the mix and EQ to give some life to it.
Try and EQ the snare to take the mud out (around 400-600Hz).
Bassline is good, but could be crispier.

Nice work.

Cheers!
