Four channels of 24/96, SPDIF I/O, good converters in a rackmount (not in the computer).

The Lynx One has its converters on the computer card, I think, and the Delta 1010 has eight channels. I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Hey, hang on... gotta write a song...

Just curious here, but why do the converters have to be outside the computer? If the card is well-designed, inside-the-box converters can be about 95-99% as quiet and interference free as they'd be on the outside. The Delta 66 has everything you ask for, except the off-card converters.

getthis - the Aardvark card's got pres and effects and stuff that I don't need or want, although if I was in the market for both, it would be a very attractive option. You wouldn't even need a mixer. Very nice.

Dolemite - my understanding is that computer guts generate fairly active electromagnetic fields that add noise to any card that lives there, hence the wisdom of putting the converters outside the computer (like the Delta 1010). BTW, where'd you get that figure of 95-99%? That's very precise, and very interesting.

I'll take a look at the Delta 66 anyway - thanks - I don't know much about soundcards.

I think the Direct Pro's converters are on the pci card, not in the breakout box.....

Yeah, I think everything's on the Direct Pro card except the physical channels in the breakout box. I don't get it. If a company is gonna make a breakout box anyway, why not bung the sensitive electronics in it as well?

The Aardvarks all have that heavy metal shield on the PCI card, so hopefully that does something to reduce interference. Also, the Aardvark LX6 is basically the Direct Pro without the mic pres.....something to consider, though if I remember correctly its still quite a bit more expensive than the M-Audio Delta 44 and 66.

Dolemite - the casing is resin, not metal. I don't know if resin shields from electromagnetic fields.

But you're right about the rest, I think. The LX6 isn't less esteemed, like I said, it's just cheaper. $120 cheaper list. $120 less for 4 less pres. What can the quality of the pres be at $120 for four?
