Does the BOSS BR8 give phantom to XLR?

I'm an utter newbie with a quick question - can I plug in the CAD ST100 mic (described at http://www.cadmics.com/stseries_specs.htm )straight into a BOSS BR8?

The specs for the mic say that it's phantom-powered, but I can't find any literature to say whether the BOSS unit will supply this power or whether I'll have to buy something else (I haven't bought anything yet).

Thanks for any answers.

nope

unfortunately the BR-8 and almost all digital 8 track recorders do not have built in phantom power. you need to go through an external mixer, preamp or a phantom power adapter (i have a small phatom power adapter by ROLLS..very cheap)

actually....the BR-8 DOESN"T even have XLR inputs!!!!! that sucks. that's the main reason i didn't get one. i was really close, but i thought it would be too much of a hassle to convert to 1/4inch and i think you would probably lose a little qulaity in doing so.

I'm looking to get a Roland VS-880EX (but i still need a preamp for that too)

hope that helps

NO more 4-track for me! it did me good for my first album, but time for a change.

Yipe! Thanks for that info. The only reason I was asking was because I was thinking about getting a TASCAM 414 as my first recorder to record some piano demos, but then someone offered me a cheap BOSS unit. Since I wont need 8 tracks (for now!) but I do want good mics, I guess I'll go for the 414 with it's XLR sockets. Now I have to find out about those phantom power adapters you mentioned!
