does paint change a lot the acoustic characteristics of a material?

hello, well..i have a room and the walls are made of 12mm plasterboard, i like the way it sounds now but it doesnt look good at all, so i m thinking to paint the walls...would that change a lot the sound absorption of plasterboard? thanks

paint will not change the effects fo reflective materials like plasterboard. For absorbtive surfaces it will clog the pores and cut their absorbtion significantly.
