Does anyone still use VST/32?

Just wondering if anyone still uses VST/32? I have never upgraded since I bought the producer pack 10 years ago. I know the program pretty well, and am afraid of the learning curve of upgrading to any of the newer versions. Have been thinking about 5 lately.... Also, does anyone have latency problems with the MIDI on VST should they use it?

I'm even worse - I still use Cubase VST/ 24 version 4.1r2. That came out in 1999 or so and I run it on Mac OS 9.2. I use Mac OS X (10.4.11) for everything else but couldn't dislike OS X more - what a ill-conceived POS that is.

I have Cubase LE on OS X but that sucks compared to VST/24 on OS 9. No Logical Edit for starters. I have never had any MIDI problems with latency, I'm using a 867 MHz G4 with 1.5 GB RAM. I have other faster Mac's too but they won't run OS 9.

Eventually I will upgrade to something I guess... but I'm in no hurry... I know my OS 9 system like the back of my hand and it does run 24 bit 96KHz. There is nothing that can stump me on an OS 9 system. Every few years I check with Cubase and so far there's nothing I've wanted in their "upgrades", and the company doesn't even seem like the same company it was 10 years ago.

I'm waiting a few years until some major changes occur in computers, like (hopefully) putting the basic OS on the PC board so there's no load up time for instance.

I resisted uninstalling VST 32 for a very long time and am not giving up on it entirely.
It's a fine piece of software.

I finally bit the bullet and bought Cubase 5 Essentials.

I am that way by Win XP. And Steinberg was a great company 10 years ago in the way of customer service. They were very personal with me and I purchased the producer pack directly from them. I have not dealt with them since, so I cannot speak of how they are now. Maybe you think they are a little "big for their britches"?

I am seriously considering Windows 7. I have never heard of Windows coming out with a stable right out of the box OS until now. Which is a wonderful thing. And I can use it with my new program.

I am excited to say the least about using this new Cubase, but am afraid of the learning curve. I am having so many issues right now with VST though, and I think it is all due to the OS. I will let you know (if you like) how cubase essentials works for me. I hope it was worth the price, but if it wasn;t I'm not out much. I spent 8 times as much for VST 5.1 10 years ago....

I'd love to hear what happens.

I started on Cubase I think in 1989. They had a phone tech line that took often up to an hour of what was then expensive phone waiting , and then you'd get a guy named Bill Black, who had almost the same demeanor as the Soup Nazi. He used to yell "READ YOUR MANUAL!!!!" and stuff like that. After a few years of this, one day I phoned and there was a message that said something like "We will no longer be receiving phone calls". And this was before the internet. So that was it. I thought they'd died.

The program never worked as they said it would, and it didn't clear up until several years went by and OS 9.2.2 and Cubase 4.1r2 came out. Throughout that time Steinberg was MIA.

About 3 years ago I tried Cubase LE and noticed it didn't have Logical Edit, which I love. I wanted to upgrade to the newest Cubase so I phoned Steinberg and the tech there had never heard of Logical Edit and said that it was no longer in Cubase.

So I waited another year and phoned them again and was told the same thing - that Logical Edit was no longer made. So I decided to stay with OS 9 and VST 24.

About 6 mos ago I was on a forum and found out that SL, SX, SL3 and many more versions have logical edit, as does the current one you bought. What the Steinberg techs had told me was bullshit.

That's why I don't like the company, but I like the program.

The thing is that in reality, my 1999 program records at 24/96 so it's not really a problem. I don't want much more than a tape recorder can do.

I would like to see if there's a plug-in that can do what my Finalizer does because I phoned them today and they want $1,000 to upgrade it to 24/96.

Sorry to ramble on - I would like to hear how it goes for you!
