hi...

i have this microphone at home

http://www.cardinalproaudio.com/whatsnew/archive/shurebg11.htm

i heard shure microphones are real good... but i don't really know if this one is real good.

my parents use it for their karaoke machine. and well i've been using it for my home recording.

i heard it's better to record vocals with a condensor mic, and this one is dynamic.

so for home production, do you think i should invest in a new mic?

thanks for responses.

I think that the BG 1.1 is the least expensive mic in the Shure Beta Green series. I used to own a BG 4.0, and it was a decent instrument condenser. BUT.... it sold for more than the 1.1, and a lot of places seem to be selling the 1.1 as a karaoke mic. My guess is that it is a high quality Karaoke mic/not so hot recording mic. The Shure website states that the applications for this mic are: karaoke, PA and basic recording. Any mic that is recommended for karaoke is probably not going to give you stellar recordings.

If you want to try a reasonably priced condenser, and don't have the required phantom power, here's one that runs on a battery.
