Does anybody use Fostex D series decks? (D-108, D-160 etc.)

This is my first post in this forum so I'm not sure if I'm in the right place or not.

I have for years been using an ADAT system with a mixer, single deck, ADAT connect software and an ADAT PCR card for tracking. This antique (or is it "classic") system works fine for what I do. I track to the ADAT, dump the tracks to an old PC via the PCR card and ADAT connect, transfer the files as needed via ethernet to my newer working PC, edit individual tracks with CoolEdit, mix in Traction and export to final wavs.

I've recently come into a Fostex D108 deck and would like to replace my ADAT deck with it. It would be great if I could just integrate it with my existing setup but I don't think it's possible. Therefore, I'd like to just be able to transfer tracks from the Fostex deck into my PC and back again. Does anybody do this? What kind of card do I need? The Fostex site and manuals are distinctly useless and I'm not very smart so any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Man, that's a lot of work you've been doing just to move tracks. Almost like a train yard switching trains :-)

You mention having a newer working PC, but not alot of other information here.

The Fostex D108 has ADAT in & out on the back. What you need is a sound card in your Computer that also has ADAT plugs and two fiber optic cables. There are lots of sound cards out there that will do that.

I use a Fostex D160 and I have an Echo Gina 3G pci sound card in my PC. As you must have figured out by your old process of transferring. ADAT will move 8 trks at one time . It's called lightpipe.

If you can give me a little more info as to what you have in the way of a PC and what you are running for software, etc. I can probably get you up and running.

If you didn't get one with that used D108, you can get the manual here www.fostex.com/support/pdf/ fostex/d108/d108_owners_manual.pdf
