Does a mix sound better with a video? ;)

TAE

All you have is now
I've had a good time with my Like a rolling stone tune..

I used windoze movie muncher to make a video for it...pain in the butt when you are running on empty in regards to time but here it is... yep I think the mix sounds better with a video behind it... or not...????

The voice is compelling enough. I can see how the video adds to or subtracts from the mix. In one way it is distracting, but when the emotion is there with the performance to begin with, I think nothing matters anyway. Just good soulful shizz right there...

Well done TAE. Props...

Thanks Jimmy.... a shit load of views but only your comment..I realize the video is amateur but it makes this rather long 5 minute song seem to go by faster..There are certain songs that I love the videos on...without the video it would not be near as cool i.e. David lee's "Just a gigolo" ( I think the video's cool but then that's just me...) the video stayed in my head a way lot longer than the music in of itself would have...know what I mean?

lol! I know, like 'My doctor said I have to take a laxative! Not in my store you don't'.

Wait, what was the song? lol! Oh yeah..

Oh, and don't worry about the views and no comments. Bots and people who have nothing to say because they either feel you do not need comment because of how good it is or they just don't understand. No biggie. You know what you got and so do I. :)

Wow...that's cosmic debris Jimmy...

just out of being at the right place at the right time...a couple of times...that video has several connections to me..

First Yankee Rose...Most folks don't know that one of the greatest rock bands in Los Angeles that "didn't make it" during that period when VH, Quiet Riot and Motley Crue got the hookup was Yankee Rose...The song is a tip of the hat to that incredible band..

Between 75 and 78 there were a handful of bad ass bands fighting for the top...I was in one of them..(Cheap Day Return aka CDR)........Featherstitch, Bluebeard, Rock Candy ( prior to Motley Crue) VH, Quiet Riot and Yank your hose were all jamming down unsigned losers...

Well, you got something that inspires me. Let me know if you ever want to collab or somethin. I'd be down.

Cool ... we'll have to rap about some kind of collaboration... I have a pretty killer arsenal of keyboard noise ...up to this point mostly just been using the stripped down piano sound...but I love the hammond sound and I have synth power up the yazooo...Time is the devil in the details but now after almost 15 years of farting around here at HR.com ( yeah I was just about your current age ) and not recording hardly anything...thanks to life circumstances, lowering the bar of end result expectations and being humbled and woken up by Beeze's recording work ethic, I am finally at least laying some tracks down and now starting to learn the very basics of using REAPER..Very simplistic approach at this point and I'm not sure that I want to go to much deeper on the tech side but it is powerful and fun.

I think not. The slide show's a pastiche of images echoing bits of the lyrics, but it doesn't come close to either the song or your performance of it. It's like the song and performance are 10 on a scale of 10, but your video skills are way lower than that. There's a mismatch. After you've spent as much time in your life figuring out video as you've spent figuring out audio, you might be able to close the gap. Until then, the song's probably better on its own. You know, MTV's got a lot to answer for. Songs don't need videos to go with them. The song's enough.

Thanks for the perspective Dobro and the more than kind rating of the tune...

Yep the video is not much more than a slightly glorified powerpoint haphazardly put together in a short amount of time..there is no "video" clips.

The current big contender on the Voice is 20 year old Christina Grimmie...she's a bad ass performer..if you go to her youtube channel it is basically a 3 year history of her climb to stardom.... She's the real deal and I won't be surprised if she wins this years battle to #1. I dig how she just went for it, recording in her bedroom just she and her piano jamming em down...she built a following and the next thing you knew she had 2 million followers and was asked to go on tour to open for Selena Gomez ...Damn! no record deal yet but that is just a temporary thing. My point is... had she just put out audio clips I doubt she would be being discussed right now...I am amazed at the incredible unsigned talent that is out on places like Soundcloud and Soundclick lost in an ocean of audio...and to filter through the good from bad...Oy!

We grew up in a era where we fell in love with tunes over the radio and that love affair can still happen in between the ears. Then came MTV and video killed the radio star... but MTV was just the start...now with most people on the planet connected to the web "social media" platforms share videos much more than just audio. Youtube is the most powerful platform to get your music promoted.

That said...a goofy slide show probably isn't the best type of video to use to do that.

Have to figure that out.

And my point is that had she not put out those video clips, I wouldn't have known how irritating she is. I'd have been way better with it if she'd just posted herself singing and playing. If she hadn't fallen for trying to be so damn cute.

I agree completely. But I'm not distressed by it.

Youtube is the most powerful platform to get your music promoted.

Well, maybe as a game you and I should put out some Youtube videos. Put it to the test and see what happens. But do you really think that 'getting signed' is that big a deal? Sure, I'd dearly love to get some money out of this and recoup some of the thousands I've spent on this gig. But I just get bored at the prospect of promoting my stuff the way people like Rihanna do. It's a full time job. And in the end you have to ask: Is it about the music or is it about the fame? Just gimme the money and I'll shut the fuck up. :D

Too funny D! :D

Christina is a ham but she is the real deal..If you go to her earliest videos she is so green and innocent and so full of raw talent...I know a lot of people don't dig Celine Dion but the girl can sing..IMO little Christina is Celine on rhoids...I think she has SUPER star potential..

yeah and for old farts like us stardom is long gone... I LOVE playing music..it is my drug of choice...being as I don't do any others other than chocolate and ice cream...mmmmm

That said to be able to provide a monetary life support system from doing what I love would be exceptionally cool.. especially as my earning potential looks like it is diminishing as I move closer to my expiration date...

Now that I am actually recording things it would be cool to get them placed in paying media like a commercial, tv show, movie... hell something to generate some duckets..

If I never make a dime from them I won't be shocked, but if I don't try I'll never know... so....away I go....

Actually, making a buck out of this is admirable.

I've heard it said too many times "if you're in it for the money, you're in it for the wrong reason"

It's true that if you don't love playing music then it's like a job and that would suck.

If you love playing what you're playing and getting paid for it...that'd be pretty dang cool..
