i been having problems with sony MD's ,ive been getting 'blank spots' and somtimes very slight volume changes when listening back to my mixes ive done , has any one had these problems with MD's im led to belive sony MD'S are no good

What are you refering to more specifically? A Sony MD-deck? Portable? Multitrack? Or is it the discs?

I use four different Sony MD-recorders/players for different purposes. One deck and three portables. Usually i use their media, too (no particular reason other than it's become a 'habit'. Going on eight years, no bigger problems so far.

I don't know much about Sony's multitrack MD's, though.

If you are talking about the Sony Data discs for 8 track recording, which I use in my MD8, I've had very little problem with them.

Here is how YOU CAN HAVE A PROBLEM:[

If you are using a 4/8 track MD recorder and you cut a track or two tracks, like drums and chords, if you don't put those tracks into the CUE mode when you overdub the 3rd or 4th tracks, etc.,

YOU WILL LOSE DATA. CHECK THE MANUAL.

Also, since we live in a world filled with dust, sometimes I've gotten a "bad disc" message. The first time it happened was to a very new disc.

So, I gently used the vacuum cleaner on the disc and close to the disc housing. Things have been great ever since and I'm still using that disc.

Hope this helps you out.

Come to think of it, the oldest player i use now has recently gone dead quiet for a few seconds. Suddenly one or two seconds silence and then it picks up again at the same spot. I thought it was the MD-player, it's been 'beaten up' on a regular basis for four years or so. Figured it's time to retire it, but the discs... why not? I'll see what happens.

sony md discs

hi again its me Si (liverpool england)
right first of all im using a sony md walkman for my recordings and using sony discs ,the volume changes are very slight but if you do recordings all the time you will notice the 'change' also
the blank audio pause's or spots could might well be dust but do you reckon it could be the quility of the disc's?or are all disc's the same?ive checked all connections from the mixer to the walkman to doulbe check and everything is great that end.....thanks to all who have replied

Yo Si-Ka-Del-Ik:

Dust can be a problem; I don't think that Sony uses a "clean" room to put their MD whatever discs together. And, well, man, the air that blows around the earth is DUSTY.

I'll take a Laphroig neat.

Cheers,
