I don't know if this is the right forum to ask, but is there an affordable effects processor to doctor my awful singing voice? I really don't want to look for a vocalist, because I'm pretty much a one-man band.

Firstly you can use Antares autotune pluggin to put yourself in tune. Try double tracking your vocal - that always helps. There is a new pluggin that puts you vocal in time, sortta like a vocal quantiser!! can't remember it's name.

but hey! if the passion is there that's all you really need. ;)

Hey I'm a Recording Genius!! sortta liked force of nature, it reflected my aging libido.

Cheers
John :)

Yo Man of Groogles:

The Lexicon MPX 100 is now selling for less than 200 pezzutos; it is a very nice box for the dollars and it will help raise your voice to echelons unheard of.

However, if you sing the wrong notes, well, man, keep singing.

how bout a paremetric eq and compression? and maybe a mic thats made for vocals.

How bout calling Lou Reed, and asking him how in the
world he got famous with a voice like that? Maybe
if he gives you some pointers, you can keep that
ol' voice you got AND be famous, too.

Seriously though, I downloaded a demo called RBC
Voice Tweaker: it seemed to have a lot of promise,
and I think it was much cheaper then Antares auto tune.

Thanks all for the advice!

I can actually carry a tune, but my voice is blah and uninteresting. I tried running my vocals through my Digitech RP3 guitar effects processor, which had some neat effects, but between boosting the output level and the trim on my Tascam 488, I was blowing my eardrums out and not getting very good recording levels on my meter. Maybe my voice is better than I think it is, I doubt it, But I'm going to sulk until I come up with a solution

I will give your suggestions a shot! Thanks, again.

Also, I use a Shure SM58, which I don't like very much. Can anyone suggest a better mic?

Head straight to the "MIC FORUM" and pose this same question to our illustrious mic moderator,Recording Engineer!

rbc voice tweaker

i bought rbc voice tweaker some time ago, and have upgraded (for free) to the latest version recently. i use rbcvt for transposing vocals for harmony (it does gender shifting also), and use the antares for vocal intonation correction. the antares does a better job of vocal correction but does not do harmonizing. rbc told me a couple of weeks ago that he's working on a new algorithm for correction.

i have found that combining the raw vocal with the corrected vocal makes the best sound.
