Hello all: Fostex VF80 owner here. Do you use an isolation booth at home? How did you make it? After listening to some awesome mp3's of Martin guitars at myfavoriteguitars.com, I wrote the store owner and asked about the sound. He answered that they were done at a friend's studio in an isolation booth w/2 Neumann mikes. The sound is so much better than what I get, tho I'm sure my Martin HD-35 is just as good as theirs. I fear my sound is bouncing around like crazy off and around the hard walls of the spare bedroom I use, creating too much reverb. I can't go putting acoustic foam all over the walls, and that sounds like a complicated subject anyway, so maybe I should build a small booth. I do have a large walk in closet I could use that has lots of my wife's clothes in it. Would that be better than nothing?

Would my wife be as happy as the rest of you to know that I've moved all my gear in her closet?

Pragraph 1 is a serious question. Please advise. Thanks

My home studio is essentially a 13x22' room, with a stairwell in the back of the room. Being "cheap" with space, I built a hinged platform over the stairwell, then framed a small rectangular iso booth, about 5'x8' or thereabouts, with a double pane window.

It wasn't constructed "well" acoustically, but was good enough for my purposes. 2x6 construction, packed with dense insulation, 3/4" plywood inside and out, glued and screwed so its one structure, then sheetrocked and chaulked. I haven't put in any acoustical treatments yet, but I'll be hanging rigid fiberglass covered in a fabric rather than slapping foam in there.

the flip-floor doesn't really seal that well, so I attached two "rings" of generic automotive rubber (like the rubber that goes around your trunk lid, to make a seal) around the perimeter of the flip-floor so the two rings trap air between them and help isolation acoustically. The flip floor is filled with the same insulation as the walls.
