Do you use a compressor after you are done mixing?

I have been using a compressor after the mix and it has lowered the drums and bass way too much.After hearing how it is supposed to sound I'm almost ashamed of posting on soundclick.I need more feedback about mixing and compression.

Normally, I use a maximizer for mastering. NOT a compressor. A compressor on a mix adds a pumping effect and will low the bass. I use the Waves L1 Maximizer. Maxim also works. These types of limiters do not color the sound to much. It just makes it louder and more strong. If you need to fix a mix with a compressor, use a MULIBAND (Waves C4) compressor. It's like 4 compressors in one... These kind of compressors compress certain frequencies and not the whole mix. This is helpful if you get a mix with a lot of highs or bass at parts and just want to compress those parts.

If you need to use a compressor, try to have a fast attak and release. If you have a slow release, you will hear the compressor pump. The trick is in mastering you never want to hear the tools used in your mix.

For the longest, i didn't even know what a compressor did or how to use one. I used a software compressor before i actually got to use a hardware one. Sold my hardware comp tho. It takes a while to actually understand and correctly use eq, compression, and learn mixing. I'm getting better but i'm not where i want to be. Vocals is a whole notha animal. You'll get to that one day if u keep messin around wit music. U use Fruity loops or reason? Sounds like fruity loops tr-808 sounds on your tracks.

Yeah that's what I use FL 6.I have a lot of vstis but I think I need better quality sounds.Without monitors its gonna be almost impossible I guess.I'm using the soundcard my computer came with but I'm determined to make some tight stuff.People have done more with less.This will be a real test for me but I'm up to it .
