Build your dream computer du jour on paper? In somewhat the same fashion as the MacDonald's Index I like to set a budget of $1,000 and see how much I can get a couple of times a year. In the past, sometimes I could get more, sometimes I'd get less. But of late it just gets better and better.

A thousand bucks will buy you a hell of a box nowadays. Now if I just had the money!

I would rather buy some equiment than computer, if I had the money.

I have about 5 wish lists on newegg.com. I check them regularly to see if prices have fallen at all...I always felt kinda dumb about it, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone :-)

I upgrade every year. I build my own too. My studio PC gets the new cpu and motherboard, memory. I then take the old stuff from the studio PC and put it in my personal PC (the personal PC has the best video card though, I like to play games). My old personal PC hardware goes into the wifes PC and hers into the kids. Every year I do it all over again. Except this year I did the studio and my wifes same time. My wifes is faster than mine. Need to keep them happy from time to time. But yea, each year I research new stuff within say $1,000 and go from there. I love tinkering with computers.
