What's your take on this?

What kind of songs appeal to the women in your life (met/know). Are love songs for girls and rock songs for guys?

Just in general, because I know there are metal loving girls out there too....

Women tend to throw their clothes off and beg me ro ravish them after hearing my masterful songs. Men just break down and cry, give me tons of money, call me "Brother" and express their deep desires to someday achieve the level of greatness that I have attained. If the men treated me the same way the women do, I'd have to stop writing and singing completely. :D

Nyuck, nyuck,nyuck.....:D:D:D

Seriously, people who hear my music run like lemmings for the nearest cliff. It doesn't seem to be gender specific. Nice way to end a party though.....

The female reaction isn't quite as good as it may seem tho since I mostly perform at retirement homes and assisted living communties.

Women want and need a deep meaning in a song. Guys need to have a hero to look up to. I think women love music for the cute guys and guys love music for the women who love cute guys. It is all about "getting some"

It is too elaborate these days. It is all about sex in the end.

Dark and prissy

Women like the songs that they can dance to, not to deep lyrically and literally available i.e. songs that tug on emotions and have meaning that is easy to grasp without interpretation- pretty and melodic. Guys like songs that have elusive meanings are hard driving with harsh, angry vocals and the music can get lost in multiple layers that may conflict, chafe, grate or otherwise irritate the nerves. Bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam (yeah, I'm from Seattle so I'm biased) artfully walk the line between these extremes creating music that's accessible to both sexes.

Thanks for some of the fun responses - I got a laugh in the middle of a hectic day. Since I can't offer anything as clever as jdblessing - I'll play the straight man.

It depends on the song. In general, I find males respond better to harder grooves and lyrics that talk about hard living (or as my guiatrist calls them "my beer drinking songs"). Females seem to respond more to nicer melodies and thoughful lyrics.

The songs that I've had the most luck getting published tend to be the up-tempo stuff with lyrics that "Joe Sixpack" can relate to (I focus mostly on country material)

Since I'm in my 50's I don't spend much time playing songs for "friends" and I don't gig my material. Most of the people who do hear my songs (other than my publisher) are musician friends - mostly people who may lay some track for me - all of which are around my age - so the ability to dance to the song seems less important than the ability to either relate to the lyrics or to be able to hum the melody.

Generally, I find the girls like the love songs, the boys like the rock songs...:D

Its like 'chick flicks vs porn' - the trick is to write a song like a 'Bond' film that appeals to both genders.

Thats Crusis, Anna Crusis!

Aha.....

......Chick Porn Lyrics. I finally have the secret! Can't stick around....gotta go make a quazillion buckolas. I owe you one Whatmysay.:D:D
