If you get your tape deck in a non damaged condition then consider yourself very lucky and remember that even if your recorder does not have apparent external damage, it most likely has internal issues of which you may not be aware and despite the deck "working". Internal structures can be bent and PCB boards cracked.

I can't speak for everyone and only have my reputation here to go on and I'm telling you that these 2 sellers sent me decks which arrived damaged. Their packing was a joke, despite what you read or what they tell you.

Take what I say here seriously or with a grain of salt. It's up to you.

As for me, I will never, ever believe or trust what a seller says or promises. My eBay days are over and local pickup is my next best friend.

If you have had personal experiences with bad eBay packers or sellers in the past, post their user id here so that we can protect each other.

Remember, use caution because what is a nice deck if it will likely get damaged during shipping by idiot packers ?

Btw, whatever positive words I had for portauthority in a past thread, I feel bad about and I hope no one, as the result of my premature recommendation, had a bad experience with this seller. My appologies again. :(

If you insist on shipping, my last recommendation is to CRATE everything which is of substantial weight, which means most TASCAM and TEAC mixers and tape decks. Don't settle for anything else. If seller refuses or you don't want to pay the extra costs, look somewhere else.

I've have a few items damaged. By percentages it's pretty low,...

but it's never any less aggrivating when it happens. It's always the packer's fault, 'cause there is a way to carefully pack a reel deck/heavy item for shipment & avoid damage. I also swear by Ebay for local pickup deals as a preferred method.

I've bought more gear than the average person, so I've probably incurred more damage, but by percentages it's,... relatively low (but costly nonetheless).

I've picked up some tremendous gear deals locally via Ebay. I've heard Tascams grow on trees here!! ;)

Dave, you're lucky 'cause TASCAM Analog and California and eBay local pickup deals are one and the same! That's the only way to buy imho! :)
