hi,
someone out there please tell me,
I am recording vocals in tight cardoid (two inches from mic)

Do I need to treat my room , or will my money be better spent on good quality cables.

That's easy... you need BOTH!!! :D

SERIOUSLY....... Close-miking anything minimizes the room effect quite a bit, so unless you're hearing the room in your vocal tracks now, and you don't like that little "live edge" it gives, you can try some acoustic treatment....

Otherwise, go for the cables...........

thanks Bvaleria,

that is just what I wanted/needed to hear.

I dont really hear the room in my recordings, that is why I was wondering,

Now I have to get me some good cable. I know you recommend Canare or Mogami. Are they as good as monster 500?

Now if I could only change your mind about those Ns10ms

Well I don't know about monster cable except in hi-fi audio usage - it's good cable...

BUT... Canare and Mogami IS a de facto studio standard

Never, never, never... ;)
