Just bought a p3 733. After reading all of the posts regarding MBs. I have decided to get one with a BX chipset. (I've had my share of problems with lousy chipsets and want to avoid trouble if possible) Can I do this since BXs are 100 FSB. I would rater not overclock my AGP card. Would I essentially be stuck with a 550 MHz cpu if the multiplier is 5.5 and I don't overclock my bx chipset?

hey, see my thread called "HELP PLEASE! My POS computer is crashing again!" It might help you know what to expect from overclocking your CPU.

Help me understand here... now WHY would you want to go with a BX chipset? Get something with an 815 chipset and you'll get much better performance.
Maybe I misunderstood.
Peace,
Paul

Yes, the 815 is the way to go. The B was nice for its day, but it has been replaced. Don't waste money on old technology.

Thanks for the info. I read from Slackmaster2K and others that the BX was the way to go. I have an echo darla. Anyone out there have any experience with the darla and 815 chipset?

I wrote a huge reply to this but it was lost :(

The basic point I made: I haven't recommended the BX chipset exclusively for a while now. I still belive the 440BX to be a better performer than the i815 from all the numbers I've seen, but it simply doesn't support the 133Mhz FSB.

As far as I know most of the problems with the i815 chipset have been resolved and people are having a good amount of success with it. The biggest benefit is of course that you'll be able to run 133Mhz FSB processors. All 440BX boards that support 133 require that you overclock AGP.... this is something that *I* would consider, but not something I would really recommend to everyone.

Get something like an Asus CUCL2 (revision 2 is now out) which sports the i815 chipset, and everything should work out for you (revision two is also painted black and looks cool). Try to get one without integraded audio and video (these are optional features on all i815 boards).
