Do I need help or not?

I know it's an inconvenience to take the time to listen to someone elses music but I'm not sure if I'm doing this whole recording thing right. This piece is a 1.27 min Irish style excerpt from a longer medley tune called 'Folk Tales'.

I guess what I'd like to know is if I'm getting good enough levels, is the mix half way decent (it can't be to bad cause it's just piano and strings), and is the song sonically pleasing.

If you choose to listen, Thank You!

I like it! ...

The levels are fine and the mix is a matter of taste. I enjoy the tune!

If I had it though, I would try it without the strings and if I thought it still needed them I would keep them in the back of the mix. I think the strings seem to smooth the percussiveness or dynamics of the piano, subtracting a little 'Irishness.'

You don't need help so just consider this a different perspective.

Daaaaaaammmmnnnn!!! I need a Guinness! That was very cool.

It sounds great to me. My only suggestions are that the string part is too legato and tends to smooth out the piano as was already stated. The piano sounds like a small upright, by which I mean the low eq is poorly defined and lacking. I also think a bowed bass would sound great thrown in.

That's some great music you've got.

First of all I'd like to apoligize to the members who followed the link and did'nt get through. The Soundclick servers were down almost all day today. In fact they've been having a lot of troubles lately.

Zellus - I wish I could say I composed the piano from the very beginning but I'm afraid I write all my tunes on guitar. The piano arrangement is a direct transcription from the guitar.

Superskyrocket - I was thinking the same thing about the strings, but they're still relatively new and I think I'm not over the affection I have for them. :D I was even thinking of maybe a Irish drum, can't remember what they're called now but them and maybe a pipe too.

Purge - And you can hand me one down too.

Cracked Lid - The string are off a soundfont I picked up some time ago. I'm afraid that's the only signature they have. Have to find a few more that fit in more with the music. The piano I was trying for a authentic sounding pub piano. Just a cross between a honky-tonk and a grand. Maybe I put to much of the honky-tonk in.

Once again I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to listen to the song. It's nice to know I'm doing some things right, and that some of you even like the music.

Thank you, one and all! ;)

Sorry Zellus, don't have the time. Been re-recording the first acoustic CD, while getting ready to record the second acoustic CD. With the CD's I'm designing my own covers too. Also collaborating with a girl singer I know who's actually on tour right now, but when she's done we're going to work on a Irish project together that I've been writing. Along with that, working on a classical thing with another old guitar friend. Thinking of playing gigs again after a hiatus of about a year. Kind of miss.

In the process of getting 12 new songs copyrighted, maybe get a web site of my own and a publishing company. Not sure about that one though. So as you can see I just got to much on my plate right now. Hell I'm just lucky if I can stick my head in here once in a while. I've already had to give up the other sites I used to visit. It sucks being to busy sometimes. :D

You ought to check out some of the other guys and gals stuff in here. Alot of it's pretty damn good. ;)
