Do I need a mixer?

Alright, I am begining to think that some of my issues may be solved by buying a mixer of some-sort. Even one of those dreaded Euroracks for $70.

But I am still not entirely sure. What I am doing right now is I have my Monitors connect to outs 1&2 on my Delta-44, I have my little Philips stereo that I use for a headphone amp plugged into outs 3&4.

My main problem is with latency, I can get down to 64 for my DMA Buffer Size but there is still a bit of a delay, causing an very small but noticable echo effect through the headphones. I am having a hard time overdubbing because I can't really focus on the actual signal becuase it has that split-second delay.

Now when I choose "Direct-Monitoring" through my Multitrack program the problem is solved, somewhat anyways. I first have to change my Headphones from outs 3&4 to 1&2 and then my signal (say one mic plugged into my preamp going into In 1) only comes from the left side.

Would a mixer solve my problems? I would like to be able to do direct-monitoring and hopefully have the signal come to center, not panned left.

Thanks!

euroracks aren't that bad at all, lots of people are crying foul cuz they spent thousands of dollars more on something that does pretty much the same job, and you'll find people have just jumped on the behringer mixers suck band wagon....

any-way it should solve your panning issues

Iv ordered a behringer mixer! And I ahve used alot of behringer stuff and it all is pretty good for the price u pay for it!
Well seems to be any way!

First you would need to find out what is causing the latency. If latency is the only issue, it might be cheaper to solve it than getting a mixer.

Hmm.....the latency? Simple, using software monitoring one is almost always going to experiance latency. It is VERY minimal, but even at 1ms I get the delay effect.

Seems like you shouldn't be able to hear that. I'm thinking something else is introducing a problem.

What OS are you using?

BTW speaking in defense/attack of Behringer mixers.

I never had a problem with my old 1602A. I now have a 2004A and the only problem is that the aux returns bleed through to the monitor channel even when they're not ostensibly routed there. It's only noticeable if I crank up the ctl room knob pretty high, but it's definitely there.

The problem is, and I hate to admit this, that's exactly the problem the salesman said I would have with it. :( I disregarded his advice and now I'm considering taking the 2004 back and getting a lower-level Mackie for about the same price.

What problem did he say that you were going to have?

I am using winXP.
