Hello all

I just got a new setup and i need some help. I have decided to finally go to the computer, the problem is i am very weary of the interface i get.

I have and use a Tacsam M35 mixing board, i have an outboard compressor, delay, reverb, and pre amps and a 2-track reel.

I need four or more inputs b/c i also record drums.

How would you set this up?

Personally, I'd suggest getting an audio interface whose converters aren't from the last century.... The Delta 1010 is seriously old tech.... Spend a little more and get something modern.

Intentions

My real question is how can i get the most out of my gear. Wjat are possible signal paths. For the mixer for instance -8X2X2. What are some of the approx 1500 range interfaces that would be most suited for these circumstances. BTW the board has 8 Pres on it.

Oh and why is that?

What is more "modern" about the converters in a new interface like a Mackie 400F?

For your information the 1010 uses the same converters as the much newer Yamaha i88x. The 1010's A/D are very similar to the 400F but the 1010 uses a better D/A.

Do your research. ;)

It's still very old technology from top to bottom. The fact that companies still use those same converters in designs is a good indication that those converters don't suck compared to newer converters, but technology continually improves over time, so it is safe to assume that better alternatives exist even for the converters. And I wasn't talking about the converters anyway.

Parallel PCI itself is considered a legacy technology. PCI express is the way of the future, and parallel PCI isn't going to be around forever. (It is already incompatible with current Mac computers.) It doesn't make much sense to buy a $1500 PCI expansion chassis to add PCI support for a $300 sound card, which means that you're spending a good chunk of change to buy a piece of seven or eight year old technology that won't be compatible with the computer you buy in five or six years. That just seems like false economy to me.

The Tascam M-35 mixer is 8x4x2.
