Do corner panels have to be attached?

Or can they be free standing & not completely touching the walls? If they must be attached, what's the easiest way to do this?

Here's the design i was thinking of doing. I like the idea of having the edges of the mineral wool exposed for more absorption. The panel wood have a 1x8 base so it could probably stand free, or maybe be tied to the wall near the top as a precaution. But either way there's some trim/baseboard along the bottom of the walls, that protrudes out a little, prevent the flush mount.

Your thoughts please??

Bender - well you could always trim the mineral wool to fit into place alog that baseboard.

It would not be that difficult.

I don't see a problem with it being free standing - but like the idea of it being backed up by the wall........

i have my corner traps standing free in the corners. just like you, i have some baseboards that prevent me from mounting them flush against the wall. either way, they definitely still get the job done.
