I plug straight into a tube pre amp I have, which goes into the interface. You can do it right into the interface. I find it helps to use amplitube on the tracks. Amplitube has some good bass amps, even ones you can get for free. BUT you don't need them. Also, Logic Pro X has some too if you're using Logic. The only reason I do that instead of doing it direct with no amp is it allows me different feels.
The ART MPAii tube pre amp, which is a cheap pre amp, sounds really good with bass. Look at the bass tones with it on YouTube. They make a cheap compressor too that I have but I compress in software now.
