Whats the best RAP MIC??!
Hey guys just a quick question for you jockeys. I'm using a standard macbook, has one line in and next to it is a microphone jack. I want to record myself playing and singing while using video also. I figured the only way for me to go about this is to use Imovie HD, and plug my new SM7B into my new DMP3 which would run into the line in on my mac. However, after doing this and using channel 1, I found that the Chain I was using, was almost inaudible. I could not hear anything except myself faintly even with the gain maxed out on the DMP3 and computer. I checked all the inputs and from what i saw, nothing was noticeably wrong. So first question, does anyone happen to know why this combination puts out such a weak low signal. When i record on my PC is gets so loud it clips easily. On my Mac it is quite the contrary. Next question should be easy. I want to use the DMP3's simultaneous tracks; one for the SM7B which would be right up to my mouth, and the other for my Taylor 314ce plugged in from the input 2 on the DMP3, and running a 1/4'' to 1/8'' from the balanced out of the DMP3 to NOWHERE. I do not know where to plug the other plug in from the channel 2. Even if I was using my PC, how would i go about doing this. My sound card only has 1 line in. If you guys could help, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Again I appreciate any input! Right or wrong! :)

1.) Did you check the input volume under System Preferences > Sound > Input while the DMP is plugged into your MacBook?

2.) You could record in stereo, but you'd probably be better off getting an interface which will plug into USB or Firewire.

Yeah the sound is all the way up. So is that a "no" I should not record with my guitar and mic running through the DMP3? Is there anyway for me to do it?

You CAN do it with a Y cable that has 2 Mono 1/4" Male to an 1/8" Stereo Mini-Jack.

The quality of recording a stereo file into your built-in sound card and splitting them into mono files to be mixed is likely to not be as good as if you had an interface, though.

As to the signal level coming through, other than making sure the mic was plugged in all the way and no pad was engaged, I got nothing.

Hmm. So I still do not understand how I can use the DMP3 simultaneously. If I did happen to have multiple line ins on my interface, then I could do it?

Yes. DMP3 - Two in, two out. Interface - two in. Record.
