would it be better to have 1/4" outs than xlr outs? cuz my DMP3 has the 1/4" balanced outs. why not xlr?

It has 1/4 outs so it easier to connect to most soundcards and other such devices. If the 1/4 outs are balanced than you can buy a 1/4" TRS to XLR cable and your good to go.

The probable reason why the DMP3 has 1/4 outs is because they are a cheaper connector than an XLR. thus the price is kept low. And As deepwater stated, it is easier to connect to most soundcards.

Yo Reggae! There's really no important difference between XLR balanced connections and TRS 1/4" balanced connections. 3 contacts is 3 contacts. The only downside of 1/4" connections is that in some situations, they can be pulled parially or completely out acidentally. This is more of a live issue than a studio issue. Most 1/4" connectors these days are also "smart" plugs, so that they will accept TS or TRS (balanced or unbalanced) cables. Either one will work fine.-Richie
