I know I want a Mackie CR1604 eventually, but for now, I'm able to plug directly into my recorder. I'm wondering which are better, th DMP3 or the pre's in a cr1694, or if there's much of a diff. Thanks!

Being the owner of both, I'd say the DMP3 is cleaner and has more gain than the pres in the 1604. You might want to look into Soundcraft instead.

i agree. the DMP3 is the cleaner of those two. i have heard it on acoustic which i really liked.
