DM3200 routing issues with TDIF/ADAT

Hi, first post here.

I'm trying to drive a DM3200 at 88.2k with an Apogee AD16x via lightpipe converted to TDIF by a Motu 2408mk3 in standalone mode (no PC connected). It's not working. There are some particulars at work here. The AD16x is the wordclock master and is in SMUX mode and sending out 4 channels per ADAT bank. I have 4 ADAT out's from the Apogee with 3 going to the Motu and one going to the ADAT IN on the DM3200. The Motu has several modes of ADAT to TDIF available but I need to use the one that give me three banks of conversion. At the Motu it looks like everything is going alright. I can see the signal indicators lighting up when signal is present but nothing is happening at the DM3200. If I change modes on the Motu to any single bank the DM3200 will pass the signal and I will hear it at the mixer. In the single bank mode it clones whatever is input on the active bank to all the TDIF outs and it will show up on the mixer accordingly (channel 1, 5, 9). The ADAT in works in SMUX mode.

I have set channel 1-16 as
  1. Tdif1-1
  2. Tdif1-3
  3. Tdif1-5
  4. Tdif1-7
  5. Tdif2-1
  6. Tdif2-3
  7. Tdif2-5
  8. Tdif2-7
  9. Tdif3-1
  10. Tdif3-3
  11. Tdif3-5
  12. Tdif3-7
  13. Adat1
  14. Adat2
  15. Adat3
  16. Adat4

In my dreams I could do my cuemixes like this and then record individual tracks to the computer via the firewire card but I haven't gotten that far yet. I can't get past the input section giving me what I'm looking for.

In case you're wondering why I don't just use a half-normalled patchbay and split the signals of my preamps so I can do cuemixes via the DM3200 line inputs and send the other side to the AD16x, that's how I've done it with my DM24 for ages and I'm likely to use that configuration again but I was hoping this upgrade would payoff with more accurate monitoring.

Is there something I'm missing? The mixer has the correct clock setting and I've set the inputs, it totally seems like this should work but it's not so maybe someone has some insight.

Thanks for reading.
