I'M BACK!!

Still in pursuit of a solution to my drum dilema...
Ive pretty much decided that I am gonna get triggers and a sound module instead of having to sell my set and buy a whole electronic setup. This will also eliminate having other drummers complain that they cant play on electronic kits.

Ive solved the triggered hihat problem (temporarily) Im just gonna put one trigger on it and edit the opens/closes in PT. Those dang electronic footpedals and electronic hihats are expensive!!!

But now Im am debating on my sound module. Im looking at the Alesis DM-5 at $349.99 and the DM-Pro at $499.99
I need to know if either of these can be used with Drumkit From Hell? DKFH's big thing they promote with their drum sample cd is that each instrument may have up to 12 different velocities for each sample. I know that even the DM-5 says it has 127 velocities...so that would mean that even the cheap one would do it.
Then the only difference is sample rate 18bit/DM-5 versus 20bit?DM-Pro and the DM-Pro would have probably more preset drum sounds which I dont want anyway. Right? So is my choice clearly the DM-5??? For what I want to do???

If you dont intend to use the sounds on the module and just the sounds from DFH, then the D5 will be just fine. I use a D4 and it works just fine. Although I prefer sometimes to use the cymbals on the D4, they have some good crashes and rides. All the Alesis modules have midi in & out & Thru. And velocity settings, pan and so on.

I don't think you will be able to load DKFH into a DM5. The DM Pro is the only one that has an expansion slot and the only model that will allow you to use custom sounds..

I don't have any hands on with DKFH so I'm not sure the formats combatibility with the DMPro.

I agree with Scott that there is no way to load sounds (in any format) into a DM5. I've never read the DMPro manual, so I don't know the format requirments for custom sounds - however, I'm relatively sure the DMPro does not function as a sampler - and while it may function as a sample playback device I'm sure it does not accept various formats (Akai, Roland, etc.) - I suspect the expansion slot may be some Alesis proprietary format.

You'll have to detemine what formats the DMPro can accept (Akai, wav, etc. etc.) and what board is required for the expansion slot. You then have to determine what foramt the DKFR samples are in.

As an option, you could buy a low cost sampler and then use the DM5 (or even a D4) to trigger sounds from the sampler.

This is what He's talking about fella's.
Not loading the samples into the module, but rather using the D% to trigger the DKH samples via a software sampler.
