Just ran ran across the seventh circle neve preamp knockoffs and a few others tonight. www.seventhcirclestudios.com (bottom of page)

Anyone tried to build any of the Neve, API, or Jenson clone preamps out there?

Just wondered how these might turn out. There are also some 1176 and LA2 knockoffs out there too I see.

Any comments?

Yeah, I'm about to go down this road. There is a tube mic, a tube preamp, a class A and opamp I want to try.

The LA2 would be fun. The cost and result is one concern. You could be in to this for around $700 and end up with an audiobuddy sound. Not that that's a bad thing, just expensive.

Not yet, but I sure as hell am planing on it.

I may be doing a review of these in the next month or so. I have someone lined up to put one together with his stepdad and then I'll review it.

I have built some 4 channel 1272's which sound fantastic. See here for pictures:

I made 6 4 channel units so that I can have 2 , a friend and co-funder can have 2 and we can sell 2 to recoup part of the investment.

Next up is a Sphere 9 channel graphic EQ. Some of these "vintage" circuits are not too dificult to build and the cost of making them is often much lower then any price seen on Ebay and elsewhere. For example; I can build the Sphere EQ for about $200 in parts (assuming the labor is free) per channel. I have seen these on Ebay for $350 and Mercenary has them listed for $1000!

I'm not sure what you mean.

If anyone is interested, I have 4 blank PCB's for the 1272 pre-amp. I'd be willing to sell them along with a schematic, partlist and assembly drawing and as much email support as you need to get it running to anyone wanting to try their hand at this.

PM me if interested.

the problem is i dont know how to read those schematics things... i would be able to do it easily if i had an instruction manual or a picture showing where to do everything and what connections to make... you know?? how would you learn how to make something just by seeing that blueprint?

and what was that thing you showed, teacher?
