Gday, I recorded my album with a bunch of gear I built.

API 312 pres - 12 channels
Neumann U87 mics
and a bunch of other stuff....was well worth DIYing, if you have the time...everything went into an RME Fireface 800, and linked that with something else for extra drum mics.....made a maaaaaaaassive difference with new pres.

Here's a track (i can't post the link)
Youtube search - damian murdoch trio funky desert rider

The album will be out October 4....it was my 1st project recording, mixing everything for release.

Cheers :D

Someone trying to get youtube hits? Most homerecordists don't have a closet full of Neumanns or the knowledge to put together their own preamps, either.

Giving the OP the benefit of the doubt, there are several U87 clones which can be built. Even so, a "bunch" would represent a solid money investment.
