Now that bass traps/absorbtion for my studio are done, I'm moving onto diffusers.

I'm after a DIY/cheap solution, but I'm having trouble finding information... people only want to talk about absorbtion panels :(

 Can anyone point me in the right direction???

u can make them out of wood, or maybe make a stone wall with random rocks

Am I wrong to thing that the shape of diffusers are constructed according to some algorithm?

If it is a matter of setting things up randomly, that won't be hard.

Does anyone know??

Well, that depends on what type. For polys, not really. But there are other types that do, such as Prime Root Sequence, Quadratic Residue Sequence and a few others. These are mostly called Shroeder Random Phase Grating(RPG) diffusers. Read about them here.

Here is a pic of one of the latest 2d prime root diffusers...all NINTY TONS OF MDF    :D

Thanks for all the infomation! I'll read over all those links and I may be back with further questions :)

Thanks again.

That's the coolest looking control room I've ever seen.

For a DIY diffusor I would skip the complex geometric calculations and precise measurement and go with a simple convex curve. Use a piece of masonite and bend it over some curved edge boards for the frame. That is much more in the DIY realm and fairly effective.

true poly's are much easier, and works in a small room with less than 10 ' distance of source.
If you have less than 10' distance from diffusor to source, your wasting your time & money.

I've got 16' from the monitors to the would-be diffusors. The room is roughly 13' wide.

I'm still reading into the different diffusers to find out what to build. When I do, I'll post some pictures.

The source in this case would be your ears for mixing. Instruments for recording.
