Since a PZM mic is simply a mic with the diaphragm roughly on the same plane as the reflective surface, it would stand to reason that an omni mic could be placed on a wall, ceiling, etc. and be a PZM, no?

If so, should the diaphragm be parallel to the wall (like an SDC pointing at the wall a couple of millimeters away), or would you tape the mic against the wall so the diaphragm was perpendicular to the wall?

I've experimented both ways, and I think the parallel set up is the way to go - but the PZM mics I see seem to have the diaphragm perpendicular. This way did not sound as good to me. Thoughts on this?

I don't own PZM mics, but I could use them for a particular live recording. I thought I'd be better off with my own SDC's I know than buying new mics.

Thanks.
