i will however as soon as i can post a copy of all the piccys and info there to this forum.

i will leave a picture of the first test console i made which i sold to kirsty hawkshaw a while ago...

additional items

as you can see i also made some of the rack and roll units also..

next job

well the next job is to make the inserts and the end panels also to cut the flyover shelf into sections and to fit the 140 degree hinges for them to flip up. more piccys to follow. :)

Hey, looks good... I need to make one as well...

What consoles are those?

well they are based on the nevis 70 console but i have modified it to take the behringer desks, it will also have a 19" rack space in there also, i am in the process of having the armrest and the rack inserts made by a cnc routing company. once this desk is finished i will be powder coating it in a black hardcoat finish. on the ends of the console will be 2@ thick end cheeks made out of reclaimed beech.

The rack and rolls were easy to make if you have a basic math skill for scaled drawings.

I have just finished my new design for a new console and new rack units, i have also just made a mock up, i will post a picture as soon as my patent comes through, the patent drawings should be cleared shortly (been waiting a month or so for clearing). so that will be something to look forward to.

As for costing on this, i can make this unit with all the metal work, finishing, and fake leather for the armrest including foam padding for under 200 uk sterling. the console comes out of two sheets of 22mm mdf and the metal work legs are easy.. the only hard thing is working the places on each piece for the cam and dowel fixings( used in kitchen and furniture cabinets) these have to be exact, the first console i built was a trial run for my math.... it worked!!

well tomorrow i will put up some more pics of the console also showing the insert section for the rack space and the newly hinged adjustable flyover shelves..

until tomorrow

Very nice job sir. I built all my studio furniture so I can appriciate what goes into it.

more piccies

ok heres some more as promised.

the flyover shelf has been split into 3 sections and the removable 140degree hinges are fixed on and it looks great. the meter bridges are flush with the fronts of the shelf and there is loads of room in the back for the cables to run.

you can see how big it is from the front in the full shot piccy.

enjoy these more to follow as soon as i get my inserts done.

What about ventillation? I don't see any openings in the back.

You could end up with dead equipment real soon if you don't make provisions for cold air to come in and warm air to leave.

ventilation??????

the desks have external power supplies that are dual fan cooled.. they are not installed into the console they are in their own cooler box underneath, the desks dont get warm, as for the 19" insert that has yet to go in the only things in there are some hardisk recorders that dont need cooling...

sorry but your barking up the wrong tree here...... with a 20 inch cavity in the center of the furniture and 5X10 inches of cable run there is no problems there.....

thanks for taking an interest though.. this is the 2nd one i have made..

and argosy sell these everyday... only difference??? mine isnt powder coated.. yet take a look at argosyconsole.com and look at the nevis range.. exactly the same, difference?? mine cost 150 bux to make, theirs.. yours for 2500-3000 bux...

There is still heat buildup withing the mixers. Heat rises. I have designed and built my share of furniture/cabinetry for computer kiosks as well as home entertainment centers - you will run into issues eventually.

No ventalation in mine and no problems (Tascam M-3500 with an external power supply). I'll have to go with pk1 on this.

always someone who knows better isnt there.. prehaps you should tell argosy then???? they must be doing it wrong as well.....

no offence but just because you have built a few things before doesnt mean your right about this one ;)

i am a trained carpenter, i am also certified as a master carpenter, i am also a trained structural engineer i also hold certifications in several electronic fields so i know a few things about heat dissapation and build up, convection currents and distribution of thermal build up.... for the record.. none of those issues are involved here.. like i said check out the argosy website and you will see.. you telling me that over 500 clients are wrong??? and that the design of this is wrong.. hang on i will call them and tell them to pull the design and re-work it..

sorry for sounding a bit condescending but there are no thermal or ventilation issues with these consoles... period..

im not getting into this but if you want to be my guest and have a go at argosy ;) im sure they will be a little more... polite with you.

Sharp as a tack.

I just finished a new desk. Maybe I'll post some pics too. I used a 24" x 48" section of a 3-piece corner unit as a base for a 72" wide x 38" deep desktop, with a 9" riser for the monitors.

The desktop itself was a nice piece of birdseye birch I had left over from another project.

I've got less than $100 in my makeover.

Of course, I probably used $1500 worth of tools to build it!
