Here is my config:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ ( @ 1,6 ghz )
256 DDR
80 gig

SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum as Soundcard.

I know my sound card isn't really the best thing a could get. But i'm new to home recording and don't have plenty of money to spend without having any experience.

I have SPDIF I/0, 1 1/4 input jack, MIDI I/0 and optical I/0

What sould I do... for now I don't wanna change my sound card because I just get it and it was 300$ :) Sould I record 1 track at a time, buy a mixer, a DAT or ?!?!?!?

I tried several times to tape electric guitar directly ( plug the line out of the MArshall directly into the sound card ) but the sound was really shitty! To much high frequencies....

Please help! :)

See the picture of my rack mount here

try micing the amp, that is the best in my opinion.......

....you also might try an amp sim like the POD or V-amp

You paid $300 for a soundblaster? Is that US $

I think he just get the card along with the PC, Tex. And would change it for ~$300....

Thanks and precisions!

Thanks I'll give it a try. I also find out that a direct box would do just fine. What do you thing of that?!
=== Precisions ===
Well i'm canadian... so retail price of the soundblaster audigy is $199.99 US so 300$ Canadian....... poor us :P

Most direct boxes wil just amplify the raw, uncolored sound off the guitar pickups up to line level.

They sound really dry and sterile to me. SOmetimes you can fuss it up with some processing but I hate that sound while I'm playing, it's uninspiring. I want it to sound like Jeff Beck right away, not after the fact :) For me a miced cabinet or something like a POD are the only ways to go.

MY 2c

I just have to tell you this because i too am just using a soundblaster

get new drivers for your card and you can have multichannell asio
support

(record 4-6 or more channells simultaniously)

I have a sb audigy, but I don't use it anymore. Moved up in the world :) .
I used to plug the guitar straight into the mic input and turn the gain right up all the way. Used to overdrive the pre-amp and make dstortion. Probably not too good for it, but was quiet so it didn't irritate my parents. :)
Other than that, micing up the amp sounds good. Thats what I do now and get good results.
btw, what sort of distortion are you looking for? Punk? Soft rock?

:D Baah... LOL. Why dont you just use DirX Plugins ? kind like Revalver Amp & guitar FX simulator does this...

Did you ever try to?!

It sounds like shit.... the only comment a have to make.

Yup... and most of the case, I mean MOST OF THE CASE, it sounds better alot than pluging the guitar to the mic in of SB, and turn the gain all the way up. At least you'll have more control of what you want to hear and adjust. Record clean, add drive latter. If you're thinking of the best way to get the sound, nothing beats miking the guitar routed to effects/amps. IF you're talking JUST using guitar, SB card and PC, no better way than use the plug ins... You only have to master 'em (the plug ins)...

Please tell how to record 4-6 channels at one time after you install these drivers.
