Dissymetrical wall construction?

Ok, another one ...

I was going to build a double leaf wall like such:

2 layers of 5/8" drywall | 2.5" metal stud with Thermafiber inside | 2 layers of 5/8" drywall ........ until Steve (knightfly) messed things up for me with his idea of the dissymetrical wall. In Steve's story they ADDED a third layer of drywall to make that 44Hz frequency disappear.

Would replacing one layer of 5/8" with a layer of 1/2" drywall on the outter leaf work in the same kind of way? I think it would since dissymetry would be achieved but hey ... what do i know?

I think it would help some. The different thickness in material would be a good thing, but to achieve an even higher STC rating, you might consider a "sandwich" of different materials.
For instance 1/2" drywall - 1/2" OSB - 5/8" drywall.
The layer of OSB is a disimilar material, and sound doesn't like to pass through different media.

Also, is this a single wall or double wall type of construction?

i believe this is a single wall construction ... between my CR and live room i wanna go:
2 layers | insulation | big air gap | insulation | 2 layers , still a single wall, right? excuse me if i am way off :(

I'll try to get you one, very hectic schedule rite now.

KNIGHTFLY, what's your take on that? After all you're the one who messed up my already nicely planned design :)
