I recently upgraded my computer from a win me to a win xp system. I am running a Athalon XP 2.1mhz with 764mb ram. I run pro tools.
The problem I am having is that after 10 or 15 minutes of not using my computer(not nessisarily with pt running) my cursor disappears. My mouse still works but I have to guess where it is untill it highlights the start button so I can restart my somputer. I am pretty sure that it is something to do with protools and Windows XP. I never had this problem on my old system. I have reformatted my system leaving off Prootools and my cursor doesn't dissapear. But then when I put PT back on I get the same problem. Anyone have this problem or heard of it? Any help would be much appreciated...

I hope your not using PT free as it is not compatible with XP.
Do you have the latest XP drivers ??
My guess is its a PT problem rather than XP.

No I am not using PT free. I downloaded 5.3.1 for my digi-001. I assumed that by downloading 5.3.1 it would take care of that. It is supposed to have XP functionallity. When I originally got my digi-001 I think I got version 5.0 or something and I ran it on win ME. But I have gotten a new comp with XP So I got 5.3.1

Does any of this apply ??

Caution - Digi 001 is NOT supported on the following systems or systems with the following components:

Computers with motherboards containing SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems) chipsets
Hewlett Packard Pavillion line of computers
AMD K6, K6-2 or K6-III, K7 processor based computers (however newer AMD Athlon processors are supported - see Supported CPU Models & Speeds)
Pentium I or Pentium II processor based computers
Computers with motherboards containing mixed chipsets from AMD plus VIA combined
"ESS Solo-1 PCI AudioDrive" Sound, video and game controller. This device can be disabled from the "Device Manager" in the "System" Control Panel.
SampleCell II PCI cards and SampleCell Editor are not compatible with Windows XP

Was this your post on the PT forum ??

I am new to this board. So bear with me.
I have a new computer...A 2.1 Athalon XP with 768mb ram and a 80gig harddrive running Windows XP home. My problem happens wheather Im running PT or not. If I leave my system idle for about 10 to 15 minutes my cursor disappears. My mouse still works but the cursor is gone. The only way to get it back is to restart...which is not fun when my cursor is gone. I have reformatted my computer and then not installed any PT software...and my cursor doesn't dissapear. But then when I install PT 5.3.1 again it happens again. Has anyone experienced this? If so, how can I fix it?
Thanks

I nevr trusted PT for windows...it is optimized for the Mac

Yes that was my post on digidesign...
I do have a HP computer but its not a factory build...its custom built. My old computer was a custom built HP with a smaller processor and smaller everything but I never had this problem. The only thing different that I can see is now Im using PT5.3.1 instead of the 5.0 or whatever I got with my digi, and Im now using win XP instead of win ME.
I have absolutly no problem actually running PT at all. It really only happens when I leave my computer idle. I am thinking that it is some sort of incompatibility with Win XP and PT 5.3.1 I just wish I knew how to fix it.

I hear ya Marty,

I've had that problem before with other software and I never found the cure, I just uninstalled it.
If anyone knows the answer it will probably be on the PT forum.
I wish you luck.

Hey everyone... I found out what my problem was. I was running a trial version of waves 3.5 that I had sent to me from either waves or digidesign. well when I reformatted and just used my regular plugins my cursor is A OK. That appeared to be the problem. Now Im back to using my regular plugins. thanks for the help guys.
