I hate to say this but I dropped one of my SM57s on the floor in the studio for about the 5000th time and the capsule broke off.

I mean - this mic is only 35 years old. Where's the quality in this type of construction.

Just having some fun. Next to an old RCA ribbon mic I can't identify this was the oldest mic in my locker.

I bought the SM57 for $23.50 in 1967 and it has served me well on stage and in the studio.

Now if I can find some duct tape I'm going to fix it.

Why can't they make airplanes out of the same material that they make the "black boxes" and SM57s out of?

Though I never saw a 58 that didn't work (unless one that got pretty deed under water but worked again after drying it on the heating) I have seen several 'drummed in two' 57's in my life.

you're happily recording and than all of a sudden it's like a gun went off inside your speakers. The head really can break off.
