DirectX 8.1 undetected

Hello all. I just reformatted my computer, but Sonar 2.0XL will not install. It says "DirectX 8.1 is not detected...click next to install"

So I clicked "next" and rebooted (is that a word?), but the same message would keep coming up even after it says that it successfully installed. Any ideas? Maybe something happened in my reformat.

I reformatted in this order (correct me if this was wrong):

1. Installed and registered XP
2. Installed motherboard drivers
3. Installed graphics card driver
4. Installed all XP updates
5. Installed Office
6. Installed all other programs
7. Attempted Sonar install

I don't mind doing it again, because I haven't done much to optimize. My PC's still "bare." Thanks for your help!

If you have installed all XP updates, you have installed Direct X 9. And then you should go here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/DX9.ASP







Why people don't search this board I will never know...
